Basic Number Meanings

You can add a little numerology to help you decipher the tarot cards. There are many more definitions for the numbers than the ones I have below but I will give you the easy ones I use the most.

Number Keywords and Phrases

Number 1

Keywords: Individuation, Independence, Attainment
Creativity, independence, independent, originality, ego, self. Initiating action, pioneering, leading, attaining, individual. Indicates that a situation is about to begin or is in the beginning stages.

Number 2

Keywords: Relation(ships), Cooperation
Empathy, cooperation, consideration, over-sensitivity, co-dependence. Adaptability, consideration of others, partnering, mediating. Indicates a waiting period where there will be partial success but more to be revealed later - also a reconciliation, reunion, and/or element of surprise.

Number 3

Keywords: Self-'Expression', Joy of Living
Artistic expression, sociability, friendliness, superficiality, wastefulness. Expression, verbalization, socialization, the arts, the joy of living. Indicates group activities or situations involving more than one person - also delay, but with the promise of future success.

Number 4

Keywords: Limitation, Order, Service
Practicality, application, loyalty, rigidity, repression. A foundation, order, service, struggle against limits, steady growth. Indicates fruition or manifestation of an idea, along with the foundation or 'space' where things can grow.

Number 5

Keywords: Constructive Freedom, Change, Conflict (the Rebel-Rebelling)
Freedom, adaptability, travel, inconsistency, abuse of senses. Expansiveness, visionary, adventure, the constructive use of freedom. Indicates challenge, change or fluctuation - also material prosperity but spiritual poverty if not properly balanced or understood.

Number 6

Keywords: Balance, Responsibility, Love
Love, responsibility, understanding, meddling, jealousy. Responsibility, protection, nurturing, community, balance, sympathy. Indicates adjustments in thought, attitudes or conditions - also the ability to transcend difficulties.

Number 7

Keywords: Analysis, Understanding
Spirituality, mental analysis, wisdom, fault finding, suppression. Understanding, knowledge, awareness, studious, meditating. Indicates a period of introspection or solitude - unlooked for advantages or gains through things that come unexpectedly.

Number 8

Keywords: Material Satisfaction
Executive ability, management, power, materiality, unscrupulousness. Practical endeavors, status oriented, power-seeking, high-material goals. MONEY. Indicates a positive change of mind or status because the beneficial qualities of the number 8 are rarely diluted.

Number 9

Keywords: Selflessness, Humanitarianism
Artistic genius, humanitarianism, romance, emotionalism, dissipation. Humanitarian, giving nature, selflessness, obligations, creative expression. Indicates situations or events are nearing completion or have just been completed and another plateau awaits.

The Master Numbers

Number 11

Keyword: Illumination (the number of the Minor Arcana)
Intuition, idealism, invention, insensitivity, fanaticism. High spiritual plane, intuitive, illumination, idealist, a dreamer.

Number 22

Keywords: Master Builder (the number of the Major Arcana)
Practical idealism, material mastery, get-rich-quick schemes, viciousness. The Master Builder, large endeavors, powerful force, a leader.

Number 33

Keywords: Teacher of Teachers
Master of healing love, sensitive, intuitive, selfless service, ministering, altruistic, mystical, nurturing of spirit, sympathetic, emotional, tenderhearted, protective, forgiving.

Note: The numbers 11, 22, and 33 are Master Number vibrations, and as such they are the higher vibrations of the numbers they can be reducued to. Therefore if these vibrations are active in an individual's life these vibrations can normally be deduced by the way that person lives his or her life, and in some instances, they take on the negative aspects of the reduced number. And individual can turn the imagination and inspiration of the 11 into the leaning, whining co-dependence of the negative 2, or the material mastery and world vision of the 22 into the stingy drudgery of the negative 4. Note that the number 33 has no corresponding Major Arcana card but it's lower vibration number is 6 (3+3=6), The Lovers.
