The Daily Outlook Spread [DOS]

For those who might like something a little different as far as their Daily Draws are concerned, assuming you still do a daily draw, give the Daily Outlook Spread a try.

Spread Layout

Elemental Influence .. Daily Draw Card .. Person Card
......... 1 .............................. 2 .................. 3 .........

First shuffle and cut your deck as you normally do (See: Shuffling and Cutting). Draw a card and place it to your left. This card is used ~strictly~ for the 'Elemental Influences' of your day AND it will have an 'elemental' effect on the other 2 cards at positions #2 and #3.

In the number #2 Position draw cards and stack them until you come up with a Pip or Major. This is your Daily Draw card and will act the same way as the daily draw card you have been selecting, except that you have to take into consideration the 'elemental influence' of position #1.

In the number #3 Position draw cards and stack them until you pull up a Court card. This is your Person card. It acts in two ways.

  1. Reflects the kind of personal traits you need to 'assume' for the day.  The ones that will make your day easier, more productive, able to cope with people better, and so forth.

  2. Or people/persons you might have to look out for that day that might cause you stress, be antagonistic, cause you problems, etc..
There should only be a single card at position #1 but you may end up with several cards at positions #2 and #3. You can if you want, try reading the extra cards you drew into your day to see what they are telling you as well.

Example: (Just using the top 3 cards in each stack/pile)

The Moon .. 3 of Pentacles .. King of Swords
.. Water ........... Earth ................ Air .........

Position #1: Elemental Influence (for the day)
the_moon (14K)

The Moon
It's going to be a Water elemental day that might encompass emotions, feelings, and relationships (to name just 3 meanings for the Water element) so make sure you take that into consideration and don't let your emotions run riot on you.

At the same time you don't want to appear or act emotionally cold toward those you care for.

Position #2: Daily Draw Card (for the day)
3_of_pents (16K)

3 of Pentacles
Reading this card (3 of Pents) with card at position #1 (Moon/Water) should indicate an emotionally (Water) stable (3 of Pents/Earth) day since Water and Earth are friendly toward one another. A day where I can get things done and should get a lot of work accomplished. It might mean I will have to work with others so I need to really keep a hold on my emotions which was indicated in card #1.

Position #3: Person Card (for the day)
king_of_swords (14K)

King of Swords
This is the Air of Air king (to my way of thinking) and means I need to think before I speak or those emotions indicated by my Elemental Influence card (card #1) might not stay in check as Swords is many times an element of stress and conflict.

This last card (King of Swords-Air) is adverse (ill-dignified) to the 3 of Pentacles (Earth) at position #2 so chances are I will need to keep on guard for a person (or persons) who have the King of Swords traits who might push my emotional (buttons) to the boiling point. Hopefully the Earth - stabilization factor (3 of Pents) will keep things in check.

The King of Swords (Air) I consider neutral against the the Water elemental background - but some folks read elemental dignities differently than I do and see these two elements, Air (for the King), and Water (for The Moon) as being unfriendly. If you do, or think these two elements should be unfriendly than chances are that person or persons who tweek your emotions by pushing the right buttons will indeed show up.

Give it a try and see if it works for you.
Here are the other cards I drew for those who might be interested. Note all the 10's under position #3.

Position #1
The Moon

Position #2
King of Cups
Queen of Swords
3 of Pentacles (Pip)

Position #3
10 of Cups
5 of Swords
10 of Pentacles
10 of Rods
7 of Rods
King of Swords (Court)

Additional Information

It has come to my attention that some might have a problem with card #1 at position #1 and that has to do with what should you do if a Major Arcana card or a Court card comes up in this position?  Here are some options for you to consider.  Any way you choose to do it is valid.
  1. If a Court or Major comes up in position one just start over with a new shuffle and cut and continue to do this until you get a Pip (Ace to 10) card up.

  2. Continue to deal out cards until a Pip card (Ace to 10) comes up.

  3. If it's a Major use the chart you can find on the following web page to find the element, or use your own elemental associations. See: Majors Chart

  4. If it's a Court card use whatever 'Primary Element' is associated with the card.  For instance, if the Knight of Pentacles comes up use the element of Earth (Pentacles) for 'Elemental Influence' for your day.

  5. Or if a Court card comes up and you feel adventurous you could go with both the 'Primary' and 'Secondary' elements associated with each Court card.  The secondary element associated with each court card is determined by it's 'Rank' and is completely up to you as how you want to assign the elements to each rank.  Here are the associations I use for the different ranks.
  • All Kings = Air
  • All Queens = Water
  • All Knights = Fire
  • All Pages = Earth

Some people see the Kings=Fire and the Knights=Air but this has never made sense to me, or worked for me.  But if it works for you go for it.

Now that you have decided which element to assign to which rank you can get a better elemental understanding of each court card.  In fact, for me the courts become easier to read once you assign a secondary element.   I'll break down the court cards in the suit of Cups/Water to give you an example.  Just know that the secondary element always comes first when you write out (or think about about) the two elements and is the WEAKER of the two elements.

King of Cups The Air of Water King (Kings=Air, Cups=Water)
Queen of Cups The Water of Water Queen (Queens=Water, Cups=Water)
Knight of Cups Fire of Water Knight (Knights=Fire, Cups=Water)
Page of Cups The Earth of Water Page (Pages=Earth, Cups=Water)

So if you drew the Knight of Cups for Position #1: Elemental Influence (for your card) you would actually have the dual influences of Fire and Water, with Water being Primary, and Fire being secondary.  And since the elements of Water and Fire are adverse, or unfriendly it will probably mean you're in for:

  • A day where water soaks the Fire and you end up depressed and down in the dumps
  • A day where your emotions may get out of hand and your temper flares (Fire taking precedence)
  • Or a day of excessive emotions (Water) and energy (Fire), think lots of great sex-hopefully.

Now things become both harder (to read), and more interesting with cards #2 and #3 because you have to consider both these cards against both the background elements of the court card.

Using the above premise here is an exercise draw.

Elemental Influence .............. Daily Draw Card ................. Person Card ........
... Page of Cups ...................... Ace of Cups ............... Knight of Pentacles ..
page_of_cups (14K)     ace_of_cups (15K)     knight_of_pents (16K)

Note
No extra cards were pulled at positions #2 and #3.  The Ace and Knight came up one after the other.

The Page of Cups is the Earth of Water Page (Page=Earth, Cups=Water) the Knight of Pentacles would be the Fire of Earth Knight (Knights=Fire, Pentacles=Earth).  So you would have an Earth - Water Elemental Influence/background for your day.  Which means the Ace of Cups (Water) would be fine against the friendly elemental background of the Page of Cups.

So would the Knight of Pentacles - accept for it's secondary 'Fire' elementand it's effect.  It will be fairly weak but still there.  But overall both cards #2 and #3 will be friendly to the Earth-Water elemental background of the Pgae of Cups - with just a touch of action, energy, and drive (irration) because of the weak Fire influence of the Knight.  But it could be a very emotional day with all the water influences.  But they should be healthy and sharing emotions.  But be on your toes as there may be just a tad to MUCH water indicated for the day about to start and with no Air influence for intellect, thought, ideas, and reason things could turn over-emotional on you in a heartbeat.

Try using the Earth influences of the Page and the Knight to keep stable and practical throughout the day.  The problem may be the Knight if you read all the Knights similar to the way I read the Knights in general.

All Knights - direct, reckless, courageous, movement, changeability, drive, action, strength, haste

Even with the Knight of Pentacles (the most stable of the Knights) you have these attributes, but to/in a lesser or more grounded degree because of the Earth influence.  I think of this Knight as 'plodding quickly', or 'quickly plodding'.

Take note that I did not actually read any of the cards but told you quite a bit about how the day might go for you, what to look for etc. using just the elements and a couple of general meanings for the different cards involved.

You try reading cards #2 and #3 now, [big-grin].
