The Daily Elemental Draw

A Reflection of Your day

Lots of folks do a daily draw, or at least start out doing one (See Daily Draw). It's probably the best way to start learning the tarot cards and their meanings. Even better is to do a daily draw card and record it and the events of your day in a tarot journal (See Your Tarot Journal and Tarot Journal Articles).

My own personal tarot journal is kept on the lists I'm on and on this web site for the most part because I don't have the time to write them out long hand, nor do I have the patience to keep a written one on any kind of consistent basis. Now I do have numerous notebooks and journals where I jot down ideas and such but I'm one of those extremely disorganized folks who just can't seem to get organized no matter how hard I try - and why Temperance (Key: XIV [14]) will always be my Life Path Shadow number/card stressing moderation, balance, and ... 'organization', {grin}.

Enough mumbling, LOL.

There are times when your daily draw card just doesn't seem to fit with your day no matter how you twist the meanings you have decided on for a particular card. There could be a simple reason for this. You aren't taking into consideration the ...

Elemental Energy of the Day

So try this:
  1. Shuffle and cut as you normally do
  2. Select one card for the elemental energy of the day
  3. Select a second card for your daily draw card
  4. Evaluate/compare the elements of both cards

Some Basic Suit and Elemental Information

  • The Suit of Wands is associated with the element of Fire (in most decks at least).
Fire = Action, energy, drive, passion, aggression.

  • The Suit of Pentacles is associated with the element of Earth.
Earth = Stability, practicality, order, organization.

  • The Suit of Swords is associated with the element of Air (in most decks at least).
Air = Mental activity, communications, logic, reason, conflict.

  • The Suit of Cups is associated with the element of Water.
Water = Emotions, feelings, relationships, subconscious.

  • Fire and Water are 'unfriendly' and usually stressful

  • Air and Earth are 'unfriendly' and usually stressful

  • All other combinations of the elements are either neutral or enhance one another

Reading the Elemental Energy of the Day

So lets say you draw the Queen of Cups for the Elemental Energy of the day. Cups are associated with the element of Water so 'emotions, feelings, and relationships' would be the order of the day. So care must be taken not to get to over-emotional but at the same time it will be a great day to let those you care for know that you love them.

Now you draw your actual Daily Draw Card and come up with - the Knight of Wands. Wands equate to Fire and is unfriendly with the energy of the day (Water). So the Knight could definitely take on stressful connotations.

Knight of Wands - Upright
  • change
  • departure
  • change of residence
  • change of occupation
  • the body of the personality
Knight of Wands - Reversed or Ill-dignified
  • dangerous situation
  • selfishness
  • broken promises
  • frustration
  • jealousy

So with the Water energy for the day (Queen of Cups) along with your Fire elemental daily draw card (Knight of Wands), and since these two elementals are stressful it gives you a different and more complete outlook of your coming day as opposed to just drawing a daily draw card.  The day will probably tend to take on more of the Ill-dignified attributes of the Knight of Wands rather than the Upright attributes given above.

The warning with the above cards would be to keep your emotions under control and take care not to get yourself in any type of stressful situation. Or just stay in bed, LOL.
