The Weekly Draw Card

A Card For Your Week

Here is something you might like to try.  This was submitted by someone with the handle of zandy on Joan Bunning's now defunct ~Tarot for Beginners class message board on the now defunct Barnes and Noble Online Course site.

zandy (Zandrea)
Apart from doing a daily card reading I have also started doing a one card weekly draw which I select on Sunday night, I then look back at the previous week and can see a relationship with all the other daily cards and the weekly one seems to bring me a much more clearer interpretation. I found when I pulled the 6 of pentacles a couple of weeks ago it really did have a very deep meaning for me but I had to look at the events of the whole week for it to have made any sense.

I agree, Zandy! This is a great idea. You might especially take note if the weekly card is the same as one of your daily cards.

And for extra insight, you might try pairing up the weekly card with each of the daily cards in turn. This will give you practice thinking about pairs and will also help you integrate your guidance and discover the flow and pattern of your days.

Donster's Extra Advise

To me this is an excellent idea so make sure when you pull your daily draw card ... and if you did a weekly draw card ... than go through your deck and find your weekly draw card and set the two cards side by side.  Try reading them this way and see what intuitive thoughts pop into your head.  Then swap the two cards and try reading them that way to see if the meaning(s) change, remain the same, or throw a different light on things.  Be sure to log all your draws, impressions, thoughts and so on both for the weekly draw and your daily draws in your tarot journal.

Example #1

Weekly Draw Card Daily Draw Card for Thursday
The Hanged Man 5 of Pentacles

What are your first impressions?  What does your inner guide tell you?  Check your keyword and key phrases source to see what you come up with for each card.  Does it go along with your own insights?  If not that's okay ... go with your 'gut feelings'.

Example #2

Switching the positions of the cards.
Weekly Draw Card Daily Draw Card for Thursday
5 of Pentacles The Hanged Man

Does this change or alter the meanings/interpretations of the cards?  Do you, or your inner guide see anything 'differently' when the cards are arranged this way as apposed to the first example?

At the end of your week, before you draw your new card for the coming week lay out the eight cards for the week that has just passed .... the weekly draw card and 7 daily draws and see if they reflected your week, how they might have, what insights you can gather from them and check to see if they make a 'picture or story' of your week.  Did you draw the same card, or cards more than once?  What, if anything are these cards trying to tell you?  How do they pertain to what did, or what is happening in your life?  Check the keyword and key phrases source you like and trust the most whenever you feel the need to.  This will help you 'flesh' things out even more.

Example of a Weekly and Daily Card Draws

Weekly Draw Card Monday's Card Tuesday's Card Wednesday's Card
The Hanged Man Knight of Swords Knight of Pentacles 2 of Wands

Thursday's Card Friday's Card Saturday's Card Sunday's Card
5 of Pentacles Judgment 4 of Swords 2 of Cups

Looking at all the cards laid out what do you see?  What does your inner guide see?  How do/would you associate each daily draw card with the weekly draw card?  What does your inner guide tell you?

Recommendation

So this Sunday make sure to draw two cards, each with a separate shuffle and cut.  One will be for the ending of the prior week (Sunday's daily draw) and one will be for the coming week, your new Weekly Draw.  Your daily draw would then start on Monday (the next day).  See if this works for you.  If it doesn't then drop it and forget about it.

If it does then go for the gusto!  Make sure to log things in your tarot journal!

Note
You can of course do this anyway you choose.  Start your weekly and daily draws on Sunday, Monday, and so on.

There is also a Daily/Weekly worksheet that you can use that goes along with this tutorial that can be found here. You will need to 'Page Back' to return to this tutorial.
