Look at my revised position meanings with the cards I consider ill-dignified which are designated with [ID].
So far - so good (I hope). Another type of dignity we can consider is called Positional Dignities or PD's. PD's have 3 states:
To me Positions #2 and #3 of the Celtic Cross spread have Negative Positional Dignities because of their very meanings and wording. Opposing Factor(s) < br />Root Cause The Opposing Factor would be like parking a semi in the road crossways and trying to get around it. Many people even refer to the Opposing Factor as Crossing Him, or Crosses It, (it crosses the first card - The Heart of the Matter). And Root Cause I see as the 'Root Cause of the Problem' and one of the main contributing factors to all the seekers problems. I would read both cards as Negative - no matter how they came up in the spread (Upright or Reversed). The other Position I would consider partially negative is Position #9 of Hopes and Fears. The Hopes part would be Positive while the Fears part would be Negative. So you could actually read the card both upright and reversed (see Part #2). All the other positions in the Celtic Cross spread would assign a Neutral Positional Dignity value. Nearly all spreads have few .. and most have no Positive Positional Dignities. A PosPD would be things likes my Hopes, My Dreams, Most Favorable Outcome, and so on. Let's take some examples: Example #1 Position #1: My Hopes and Dreams (A Positive Positional Dignity) Card: The 5 of Pentacles
Your hopes and dreams revolve around being financially secure, having everyone healthy, and reaching and finding higher spiritual attainment. The bad trend is reversing so look for brighter days ahead but remember to stay stable and practical, especially where money matters are concerned. Note: The last past (stable, practical, etc.) is derived from the Earth quality of Pentacles. Example #2 (Card in same position but ill-dignified - [ID]) Position #1: My Hopes and Dreams (A Positive Positional Dignity) Card: The 5 of Pentacles [ID] [PosPD]
Which might go something like this in a reading because of the wee bit stronger Positive Positional Dignity. You really need to start working your ass off to keep your head above water or your life may turn ugly. Really, really watch your money and be extremely careful how you use and invest it. The keywords right now are practicality, stability, and common sense. Get financial help if you need to - in fact I recommend it. Otherwise ... your bowl of cherries will definitely turn into the pits. Example #3 Position #1: Things I Should Consider (A Neutral Positional Dignity - since the answer could go either way) Card: The 5 of Pentacles [ID]
Example #4
Position #1: Cause of My Problems (A Negative Positional Dignity - since the position meaning itself has a negative conotation) Card: The 5 of Pentacles [ID]
Get professional help both financially, mentally, and health-wise immediately before it's to late ... if it isn't already!!! A little dire so you might want to soften it up a little and play up the get help part. Have your help 800/900 numbers (Suicide Hotline, etc.) ready and so on. I hope you see how Elemental Dignities and Positional Dignities differ and work together. ExerciseTry reading The Sun in the following positon of the Celtic Cross spread. Position: #2 - Opposing Factor(s) (Negative Positional Dignity)
If you JUST go ahead and read The Sun upright and well-dignified you are going to get all rosey and fluffly goodies but does this fit the position meaning of 'Opposing Factor(s)?'. Don S. |
